October 2000 - New Bear Test Announced

How much do you really know about bears? As more and more people head out into the mountain wilderness, the chances of meeting black and grizzly bears also increases.

Listen to a CBC Radio Interview with Ward about this exciting test.

The Calgary Herald says "A Canmore based web site dealing with mountain nature has added a section about bear safety in response to the rash of human/bear encounters in Kananaskis Country this summer"

"The difference, however is that MountainNature.com uses the identification of plants as a way to prevent those encounters"

The Canmore Leader says "These and other questions are part of a new interactive bear-awareness web-test created by Ward Cameron, a local naturalist, historian, author, photographer and storyteller."

"The questions are aimed at educating people on bear activities and habits."

"There's so much literature focused on what to do when you see a bear, instead of what are the tools we need to minimize our chances of having an unwanted encounter with a bear," he said.
